As an international Rubber gloves exporter, DPL has always been committed to empowering the smallholder rubber farmer communities under its CSR initiative Firstlight. Keeping Sustainability at the helm, We have initiated our very own plant nursery to reinforce the rubber tapping potential of the community, from which We have distributed 30,000 rubber saplings to our loyal farmers in the Monaragala district this year. This would provide farmers with access to more rubber trees for future tapping purposes and thereby enhancing their potential income.
In addition to providing latex, rubber trees have a large potential to sequester atmospheric carbon into biomass and soil, reducing the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This helps reduce the impact on climate change and as corporate citizens, DPL is proud to be able to contribute towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
We expect to expand the distribution of rubber saplings to 100,000 in Monaragala and 30,000 in Kegalle this new year, making a greater impact on the community and environment.
