As a leading exporter of rubber-based products to the world, DPL has always been committed to empowering farmer communities that grow rubber as their livelihood crop. The Firstlight CSR Initiative addresses the needs of the farmers located throughout the island and has been a formidable outreach in empowering such communities.
Under Firstlight, the rubber tapping communities in Monaragala were recently given 5,500 rubber plants free – this outreach will continue to enable farmers to have access to a considerable amount of rubber trees for tapping purposes, thus enhancing their earning potential.
DPL plans to create a plant nursery with 10,000 plants that will further reinforce the rubber tapping potential of the community – it is expected to reach 30,000 at the end of the year.By extending their support towards empowering rubber tapping communities and sustainability, DPL is proud to be able to contribute towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
